Lottie Plumb Mullins Memorial Scholarship
Lottie Plumb Mullins was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, before her family moved to Somerville, Texas. In the late 1800s, she met Albert Augustus Mullins, a local potato farmer, and they later married. The couple bought a farm in Boling, Texas, where they established a successful potato business. Ms. Mullins became a prominent businessperson and an advocate for the women's suffrage movement in the 1910s. She was deeply committed to her community and sought ways to improve the Wharton area.
In the early 1940s, Ms. Mullins and a group of Wharton County residents collaborated to establish a local educational institution, which later became Wharton County Junior College. She served as a member of the first Board of Trustees at the college, and in recognition of her contributions, the Mullins dormitory on the WCJC Wharton Campus is named in her honor.
This scholarship commemorates her legacy by providing financial support to a graduate of Boling High School who plans to attend Wharton County Junior College. It is intended for students pursuing degrees or certificates in science, mathematics, technology, engineering, medical-related fields, or business.
