On Saturday, June 15, the Wharton County Junior College Foundation held the inaugural Blackjack, Glitz & Glamor at the Houston Marriott Sugar Land, raising over $60,000 to support WCJC students. Sponsors and guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and cocktails while competing in a variety of casino games. A live auction and raffle for prizes followed.
Russell Hill, from KULP Radio, served as the official emcee of the event, while WCJC Foundation President-Elect Gary Gillen encouraged guests to support the Foundation’s mission and Wharton County Junior College. The evening emphasized this year’s theme of “Raising the Stakes,” reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to changing the lives of students through education. The Ballroom at the Houston Marriott Sugar Land served as an elegant venue for those in attendance, and the Sugar Land Town Square was the backdrop to the evening.
Jonathan Jeter, the WCJC Foundation Director, praised the success of the event. “We are pleased with the support of so many individuals and businesses in all of the communities we serve.” Jeter said. “We are privileged to partner with so many wonderful organizations to fulfill our mission to change the lives of students.”
The Jackpot Title sponsor was Wharton County Junior College. Ace in the Hole sponsors included Land Rights Law, PLLC, Chevron Philipps Chemical Co., Acciona Energia, Laurance and Suzanne Armour, and Matagorda Concrete, LLC. Double Down Sponsors included Maxim Production Co. and Highly Innovative Fuels (HIF). Ante Up sponsors included Bass Construction, Gillen Pest Control, Inc., Tenaris BayCity, Abel Design Group, OakBend Medical Center, the Bohreer Law Firm, PLLC, Atlas Universal, Prosperity Bank, BLS Construction, Inc., MasTec Clean Energy & Infrastructure, and Garland Co.
The WCJC Foundation President Suzanne Armour, was pleased with the success of the event. “With the help of our community, we are thrilled to find new and creative ways to support students, faculty, and staff.” Armour said. “We are grateful that our partners are so passionate about education and helping students succeed, which enables us to have a greater impact on those we serve.”
The Wharton County Junior College Foundation, a 501(C)(3) non-profit whose mission is to provide educational awareness and financial support to Wharton County Junior College, has continued to expand their outreach and impact. In addition to Blackjack, Glitz & Glamor, the Foundation holds the Super Science Alliance annually in Bay City, and has continued to expand its outreach through media presence and increased their scholarship awards over the past year.
