This past week, the Wharton County Junior College Foundation, in partnership with Wharton County Junior College, celebrated the completion of the Access to the Arts Project, which added a circle drive in front of the Duson-Hansen Fine Arts Building on the WCJC Wharton Campus.
The WCJC Foundation initiated the Access to the Arts campaign in 2018 in order to raise funds to enhance the building’s entrance through the development of a driveway that connects the building to Horton Foote Drive, allowing visitors safe and easy access to the building in any weather. Many businesses and individuals in the community generously supported the campaign, which concluded in 2023. Construction on the driveway began this past summer. The total cost of the project was $284,700.
“We are grateful to the WCJC Foundation and all of the donors who supported this project, along with all of the people who worked on the project,” said WCJC President Betty McCrohan.
The ceremony took place at the entrance of the Duson-Hansen Fine Arts Building on the WCJC Wharton Campus. Attendees were treated to refreshments and witnessed the ribbon cutting ceremony, some brief remarks, and a short presentation by the WCJC Concert Band in the Horton Foote Theatre.
Suzanne Armour, the WCJC Foundation President praised the event, “We are so thankful for the commitment and support from so many members of this community for this project,” Armour said. “We are passionate about our mission to support the faculty and students at WCJC and we know that this will improve their college experience now and in the future.”
The WCJC Foundation Office is located on the Wharton campus inside the J. M. Hodges Library. For additional information on the Foundation or to learn how to support their mission visit wcjcfoundation.org or contact Jonathan Jeter at jeterj@wcjc.edu or 979-532-6981.
